WHY RESTORE ?

As was mentioned in the PIANO RESTORATION Heading, restoration of an older or existing piano is a great option to have .  In case that section was missed, I am including it also on this page.

PIANO RESTORATION

We live now in a society of quick production of products for less money. The piano world is not immune to this. Some of us in the business affectionately call pianos in this category PSO’s – Piano Shaped Objects. We can be quickly influenced by the shiny black finish that will look great in our modern home but not think about the value of sound and playability. The materials and workmanship on many old piano were of very good quality and many old pianos have withstood the test of time.

Many folks wonder whether their old piano is worth putting money into to make improvements or fully restore it to it’s former glory.  Over the past 15 years that we have been in business we have experienced a significant amount of people who have a very sentimental attachment to their piano and this can be a powerful reason also to choose to restore. What can be more inspiring than making music on an instrument that Grandma made music on? Nothing like that fact to tug on ones “heartstrings”.

The main reasons why people choose to restore are these:

  • THE SENTIMENTAL FACTOR is likely the largest influence for one to decide to restore their heirloom family piano. Tamara and I have seen many tears of joy shed when folks have had their treasured piano delivered back to them, which is a very big factor why we love our work so much. There is a significant amount of emotion wrapped up with music and combine it with it’s family or close friend’s instrument and the investment is priceless.
  • THE QUALITY OF COMPONENTS used in our older pianos was often higher than that of the cheaper production pianos of today. With so many available resources within North America, high grade woods were readily available. Today’s pianos are almost devoid of any decorative or fine wood cabinets unless you pay a premium for a top end brand. Older pianos often had incredible cabinetry and workmanship which is very hard to find in today common brands.  Often with the money you will spend on your existing piano bringing it back to life- you would be hard pressed to find as good a piano in new condition for the same amount.
  • With restoration, it’s a ONE ON ONE PERSONALIZED EXPERIENCE , no multitudes of factory hands. From our initial contact, to the repairs and once the piano is back in your home you can be assured that we build a relationship with the piano we are working on and see, hear and feel it’s nuances. For myself , after having a large restoration job in the shop for a period of time, as happy as I am to to see it back in it’s owners home, I am often sad to see it go!  You can be assured that your piano is in good hands with people who truly care here at PIANOVATIONS !
